Chapter 8 - THE MISSING PAGES OF RUTH WHITMORE'S WILL

The next discovery came from my grandmother's archives.
Margaret and I were reviewing old trust documents when we found a discrepancy.
Several pages referenced in the original estate inventory were missing from a later administrative copy.
The missing pages concerned restrictions on transferring voting authority over trust-related assets.
Margaret frowned.
“These should have been included.”
I stared.
“Could someone have removed them?”
“Possibly.”
We contacted the law firm that had prepared the original documents.
Two days later, they provided certified copies.
The missing provisions were clear.
My grandmother had anticipated the possibility that someone might marry into the family and attempt to gain control over its assets.
She had included safeguards requiring independent trustee approval for certain transfers.
I stared at the pages.
Then began laughing.
Margaret looked up.
“Claire?”
I wiped my eyes.
“My grandmother.”
Margaret smiled faintly.
“She was a very careful woman.”
I looked down at the signature.
