Chapter 4 - THE WOMAN WHO BROUGHT THE MIRROR

Camille Pierce arrived that afternoon.

She wore a cream-colored coat and carried a small leather handbag.

Adrian greeted her in the drawing room.

Beside the mirror.

She smiled.

“Adrian.”

He kissed her cheek.

“Camille.”

Her eyes moved toward the silver frame.

Only once.

But he noticed.

“Do you like it?” she asked.

“The mirror?”

She nodded.

He smiled.

“Very much.”

She relaxed.

Adrian poured wine.

Then casually asked:

“Where did you find it?”

Camille hesitated.

“An antique dealer.”

“Which one?”

She laughed softly.

“Why?”

“Curiosity.”

Her smile tightened.

“A friend recommended him.”

Adrian nodded.

“Walter?”

Camille's eyes flickered.

A fraction of a second.

Enough.

“Yes,” she admitted.

Adrian smiled.

“Of course.”

He raised his glass.

“To Walter.”

Camille lifted hers.

But her hand trembled.

May you like

And Adrian knew the mirror wasn't simply a gift.

It was part of something much larger.
