Chapter 2 - THE ROOM BEHIND THE GLASS

Marco Bellini arrived twenty minutes later.
He was forty-three.
Broad-shouldered.
Quiet.
And one of the few men Adrian trusted.
Adrian placed the architectural plans on the desk.
“Find the drawing room.”
Marco studied them.
Then frowned.
“What am I looking for?”
Adrian pointed toward the eastern wall.
“Space.”
Marco looked closer.
“There shouldn't be any.”
Adrian nodded.
“Exactly.”
They compared the original plans with renovation records.
A discrepancy appeared.
A narrow service corridor had been removed from later drawings.
But the physical dimensions of the house hadn't changed.
Marco stared.
“Boss.”
Adrian looked at him.
“Yes?”
“There's a room behind that wall.”
Adrian nodded.
“I know.”
Marco looked up sharply.
“How?”
Adrian thought of Lucy.
Her brown stuffed bear.
Her serious expression.
And the words she'd spoken.
The man in the mirror looks through people.
He looked at Marco.
“A child noticed something the rest of us missed.”
Marco said nothing.
Adrian continued.
“I want to know who built it.”
“And the mirror?”
Adrian's expression hardened.
“Leave it.”
Marco frowned.

“Boss—”
“If someone is watching, I want them to believe we're still blind.”
