Chapter 6 - THE SECRET INSIDE DAVID'S BRIEFCASE
Evelyn discovered that David had rented a storage locker under a false name.
Investigators obtained access through the appropriate legal process.
Inside was a briefcase.
The contents shocked me.
Bank statements.
False identification documents.
And photographs of me.
At work.
Outside my apartment.
Walking to the grocery store.
My hands shook.
“Why does he have these?”
Evelyn looked grim.
“He may have been monitoring you.”
I stared.
“For how long?”
She hesitated.
“Months.”
Vincent stood beside me.
He didn't touch me.
He waited.
I looked at the photographs.
Then whispered, “I thought he loved me.”
Vincent's expression softened.
“I'm sorry.”
I began crying.
