Chapter 5 - THE WOMAN IN THE RED COAT

Three days later, a woman arrived at the Moretti house.
She wore a red coat and carried a leather briefcase.
Her name was Evelyn Shaw.
A private investigator.
Vincent introduced us.
“Evelyn is helping locate David.”
I stared.
“Why?”
She opened the briefcase.
“Because your former boyfriend has been using multiple identities.”
My stomach tightened.
“What?”
She placed photographs on the table.
David.
At a casino.
David.
Outside a warehouse.
David.
Standing beside a woman I didn't recognize.
Evelyn pointed to the last photograph.
“This was taken two weeks ago.”
I stared.
“Who is she?”
Evelyn hesitated.
Then answered.
“Marina Vale.”
I looked at Vincent.
His expression changed.
“Who's Marina?”
Vincent looked down.
Then said, “Someone who used to work for my family.”
I stared.
“Used to?”
He nodded.
“Until she disappeared with company records.”
My stomach dropped.
May you like
David hadn't simply stolen my savings.
He'd become involved in something much larger.
