Chapter 6 - THE PRICE OF ELEVEN YEARS

Sarah spent her first morning away from the mansion in a small apartment overlooking the Chicago River.

It belonged to her.

Not Alessandro.

Not the Moretti family.

Her.

Daniel had helped her purchase it through legitimate personal funds she'd inherited before marriage.

She stood in the kitchen drinking coffee.

For the first time in eleven years, nobody had told her what time breakfast should be served.

Nobody had asked her to arrange flowers.

Nobody had expected her to smile through another humiliating dinner.

Her phone rang.

Alessandro.

She stared.

Then declined the call.

A message appeared.

We need to talk.

Sarah typed:

Contact my attorney.

Another message arrived.

Sarah, please.

She looked at the screen.

Then blocked his number.

A minute later, Daniel called.

“Good morning.”

She smiled faintly.

“Morning.”

He hesitated.

“Are you ready?”

Sarah looked toward the city.

May you like

“For what?”

“To take back what belongs to you.”
