Chapter 14 - THE HOUSE SARAH BUILT
Sarah purchased a small historic house near Lake Michigan.
It had a garden.
A sunroom.
A kitchen with yellow curtains.
And a library filled with windows.
She renovated it slowly.
Chose every color.
Every chair.
Every piece of furniture.
For the first time, her home reflected her.
Not Alessandro.
Not the Moretti family.
Her.
She also established a nonprofit organization supporting women rebuilding their lives after financial abuse.
The organization provided financial education, legal referrals, and temporary assistance.
Sarah named it The Key Foundation.
Not after Alessandro's diamond pendant.
But after the idea that every person deserved access to a door they could open for themselves.
One afternoon, Daniel visited.
He stood in the sunroom looking around.
“Beautiful.”
Sarah smiled.
“Thank you.”
He looked at her.
“Happy?”
She took a breath.
Then answered:
May you like
“Yes.”
And for the first time in years, the answer came easily.
