Chapter 15 - THE KEY THAT FINALLY OPENED A DOOR

Three years after Sarah walked out of the Moretti mansion in the rain, she stood in the garden of her own home.
Spring sunlight warmed the flowers.
Birds sang in the trees.
The windows were open.
And somewhere inside, a kettle began whistling.
Sarah smiled.
Her life had changed.
The divorce was final.
The financial fraud case had concluded.
Her protected interests had been restored through the settlement and legal proceedings.
The Key Foundation had helped dozens of women rebuild their lives.
And the woman who once believed she existed only to keep a powerful man's household running had discovered she was capable of building something entirely her own.
A car pulled into the driveway.
Daniel stepped out.
He carried a small paper bag.
“Coffee?”
Sarah laughed.
“You're late.”
He smiled.
“Traffic.”
She took the bag.
They sat on the porch.
For a while, neither spoke.
Then Daniel looked at her.
“Do you ever think about the mansion?”
Sarah considered the question.
“Sometimes.”
“Do you miss it?”
She looked toward her garden.
The flowers.
The sunlight.
The little house she'd chosen.
Then shook her head.
“No.”
Daniel smiled.
“Good.”
Sarah took a sip of coffee.
Then looked toward the front door.
A small brass key hung beside it.
Not diamond.
Not platinum.
Just brass.
The key to her own home.
She smiled.
Three years earlier, she'd left a diamond key on a dining table in front of twenty-four people.
She'd thought she was losing everything.
Now she understood.
She hadn't lost her home.
She'd finally stopped living in someone else's.
Daniel stood.
“Ready?”
Sarah smiled.
“For what?”
He held out his hand.
“Whatever comes next.”
She laughed softly.

Then took it.
And together, they stepped into the sunlight.
