Chapter 10 - THE MAN WHO REMEMBERED MY NAME

I met Daniel Mercer in Vermont.

Not at a gala.

Not at a fancy restaurant.

At a hardware store.

I was standing in front of a display of paint samples, trying to decide whether a front door should be cranberry red or deep burgundy.

A man beside me said:

“Cranberry.”

I looked up.

He smiled.

“Sorry. Unsolicited opinion.”

He was tall.

Forty-two.

Dark-haired.

With warm brown eyes and a faded green jacket.

I laughed.

“Why cranberry?”

He shrugged.

“Looks better against snow.”

I smiled.

“Good point.”

He held out his hand.

“Daniel Mercer.”

I shook it.

“Claire Whitmore.”

He smiled.

“Nice to meet you, Claire.”

Something about the way he said my name made me pause.

Not because it was romantic.

Because it was simple.

No expectations.

May you like

No history.

Just a man remembering who I was.
