Chapter 6 - THE SECRET SOPHIA BURIED
Sophia Reynolds had always presented herself as Alexander's oldest friend.
The girl who grew up beside him.
The woman who understood him better than anyone.
But the investigation revealed that Sophia had been using their history for financial gain.
She had created false invoices.
Approved unauthorized transfers.
And persuaded several employees to conceal irregularities.
One former accountant provided investigators with a recording.
In it, Sophia laughed about Alexander's loyalty.
“He'll believe me before he believes his own wife.”
The recording continued.
“Evelyn could show him a signed confession, and he'd still ask why she was being so dramatic.”
When Alexander heard it, he went completely still.
His attorney watched him carefully.
“Mr. Moretti?”
Alexander didn't answer.
The recording played again.
Sophia's laughter filled the room.
Alexander remembered Evelyn standing in his study with a folder of financial records.
He remembered telling her to stop making accusations.
He remembered the hurt in her eyes.
