Chapter 5 - THE SECRET IN THE SECURITY FOOTAGE
Alexander summoned Tommy Russo, his head of security.
“Pull the footage from the mansion.”
Tommy frowned.
“From the night Mrs. Moretti called?”
“Yes.”
An hour later, they sat in Alexander's office.
The security recordings showed a dark SUV approaching the estate shortly after midnight.
Two men exited.
One carried a metal tool.
They approached the front entrance.
One began working on the lock.
Alexander's face went pale.
Claire hadn't imagined anything.
She hadn't exaggerated.
She had been telling the truth.
Tommy paused the video.
“Boss.”
Alexander stared.
“What?”
Tommy enlarged the image.
One of the intruders wore a jacket with a distinctive emblem.
A silver wolf.
Alexander recognized it immediately.
The emblem belonged to a private security company used by one of his business associates.
Vincent DeLuca.
His oldest rival.
And Sophia's cousin.
Alexander went completely still.
“Find out who ordered this.”
Tommy nodded.
Then hesitated.
“Boss?”
Alexander looked at him.
Tommy's expression was grim.
“There's something else.”
He opened another recording.
It showed Sophia's car leaving her apartment building less than an hour before the attempted break-in.
She drove toward the same neighborhood where the SUV had been seen.

Alexander stared at the screen.
And for the first time, he wondered whether the woman he'd spent years protecting had been helping destroy his marriage.
