Chapter 13 - THE DAUGHTER WHO CHANGED EVERYTHING

Our daughter was born at 11:18 that morning.
Seven pounds.
Two ounces.
A full head of dark hair.
And the loudest cry I'd ever heard.
The nurse placed her against my chest.
I started sobbing.
Alexander stood beside me.
His face was wet with tears.
I looked up.
“Do you want to hold her?”
He stared.
“Are you sure?”
I nodded.
“Yes.”
The nurse helped him settle into a chair.
Then placed our daughter in his arms.
Alexander looked down.
His entire expression changed.
“Hello,” he whispered.
The baby opened her eyes.
He laughed through tears.
“I'm your dad.”
I watched him.
And for a moment, I remembered the man I'd married.
The man who used to bring me coffee in bed.
Who danced with me in the kitchen.
Who promised he'd always come when I was afraid.
Alexander looked up.
“What's her name?”
I smiled softly.
“Isabella.”
He repeated it.
May you like
“Isabella.”
Then whispered, “She's perfect.”
