Chapter 9 - THE NIGHT SOPHIA CROSSED THE LINE

Sophia came to my apartment building alone.
At least, she appeared to be alone.
The concierge called upstairs.
I declined the visit.
Ten minutes later, my phone buzzed.
A message from an unknown number.
You can't keep Alexander's child away from him forever.
I stared.
Another message arrived.
He'll come back to me. He always does.
I took screenshots.
Sent them to Rebecca.
Then blocked the number.
That evening, someone attempted to access my medical records using information connected to the Moretti household.
The hospital's privacy office flagged the request.
Rebecca helped me report it.
I sat at my kitchen table, trembling.
Not because Sophia had threatened me directly.
Because she'd crossed a boundary involving my child.
Nathan sat beside me.
“Claire.”
I looked up.
“Yes?”
“We'll handle this.”
I swallowed.
“I'm tired.”
He took my hand.
“I know.”
For the first time, I allowed myself to say what I'd been hiding.
“I'm scared.”
May you like
Nathan squeezed my hand.
“Then we'll make sure you have help.”
