Chapter 13 - THE LIFE CLAIRE BUILT WITHOUT HIM

Claire moved into a small house near Lake Michigan.
It wasn't a mansion.
There were no marble floors.
No armed guards.
No enormous chandeliers.
But there was sunlight.
A garden.
And a nursery filled with soft colors.
Evelyn had begun laughing.
Natalie visited often.
Rebecca helped Claire finalize the divorce and establish a stable parenting arrangement.
Alexander continued attending visits.
He was learning.
Slowly.
Carefully.
Without expecting forgiveness.
Claire began working part-time with a community organization supporting mothers rebuilding their lives.
She discovered she was good at it.
Not because she'd suffered.
But because she understood how important it was for someone to believe you could begin again.
One afternoon, she stood in her garden holding Evelyn.
The baby reached toward a butterfly.
Claire laughed.
“Not yet, sweetheart.”
Evelyn giggled.

Claire kissed her cheek.
And for the first time in years, she felt free.
