Chapter 8 - THE MAID WHO KNEW TOO MUCH
Sadi began remembering details she'd buried.
The night before her mother's death, Leila had argued with a man in their apartment.
Sadi had heard shouting.
A glass breaking.
Then silence.
The next morning, her mother was dead.
The police called it an accident.
Miriam believed otherwise.
She showed Sadi documents.
Financial transfers.
False invoices.
Shipping manifests.
Evidence that Leila had discovered illegal transactions connected to the Costa organization.
Sadi stared.
“Why didn't she go to the police?”
Miriam looked down.
“She tried.”
Sadi's heart tightened.
“What happened?”
Miriam swallowed.
“Someone warned her that the police were compromised.”
Sadi closed her eyes.
Then asked, “Who killed her?”
Miriam hesitated.
Then whispered, “I don't know.”
Sadi stared.
“But I know who ordered her files destroyed.”
