Chapter 13 - THE MAN WHO FINALLY LEARNED TO ASK

One year later, Sadi met Roman again.

Not at the mansion.

Not at a charity gala.

At a community garden in Queens.

She was volunteering with a local organization.

Roman had arrived to discuss funding for a public education program.

When he saw her, he stopped.

“Sadi.”

She smiled faintly.

“Roman.”

He looked different.

Less severe.

Still powerful.

But quieter.

They talked.

About the investigation.

About her studies.

About the community garden.

Roman listened.

Then asked, “Would you like to have coffee sometime?”

Sadi hesitated.

He smiled.

“You can say no.”

She studied him.

Then laughed softly.

“I know.”

Roman nodded.

“Good.”

She looked toward the garden.

Then said, “Coffee.”

He smiled.

“Coffee?”

She nodded.

“Saturday.”

May you like

Roman laughed.

“I'll be there.”
