Chapter 13 - THE WEDDING THAT ALMOST NEVER HAPPENED

Daniel came to my apartment in August.
He carried no flowers.
No ring.
No grand speech.
Just a small box.
Inside was a photograph.
My parents.
Standing beside me at my college graduation.
I stared.
“Where did you get this?”
Daniel smiled.
“Your aunt helped me find a copy.”
My eyes filled.
He continued.
“I realized I knew so little about the people who raised you.”
I looked up.
He swallowed.
“And I want to change that.”
Then he signed.
Slowly.
Carefully.
I love you.
My eyes filled.
He continued.
I was wrong.
I should have listened.
I want to be better.
I began crying.
Daniel lowered his hands.
“I don't expect you to forgive me tonight.”
I stepped closer.
“Daniel.”
He looked at me.
“I already have.”
His eyes widened.
I smiled through tears.
“But forgiveness doesn't mean we pretend nothing happened.”
He nodded.
“I know.”
May you like
I took his hand.
“Then let's start again.”
