Chapter 5 - The Mistress's Golden Bail Denied

At 9:00 AM the following morning, Courtroom 4B of the Montgomery County Courthouse was packed with international journalists, high-society spectators, and corporate titans.
Vanessa Kensington sat at the defense table wearing an expensive black Prada dress, her wrists shackled to the wooden rail. Her father, billionaire real estate magnate Arthur Kensington, sat behind her with three high-priced criminal defense attorneys.
"Your Honor!" defense counsel Bradley Sterling argued passionately to Magistrate Eleanor Wright. "My client is a respected philanthropist from an honorable family! We are prepared to post five million dollars in liquid cash collateral for her immediate release on home confinement!"
Magistrate Wright looked down from the bench. "The court will hear from the prosecution."
Harrison Cole stood up.
He did not wear his usual tailored suit; he wore a sharp, dark three-piece ensemble, commanding the room with the terrifying aura of an archangel of retribution.
"Your Honor," Harrison began, his deep baritone carrying effortlessly through the vaulted stone hall. "The defense speaks of philanthropy. Let us review what this 'philanthropist' did twenty-four hours ago."
Harrison tapped his remote.
The eighty-inch high-definition monitors along the courtroom walls illuminated with the 4K footage from the courthouse arch.
The entire courtroom watched in breathless horror as Vanessa Kensington violently shoved the pregnant woman down thirty marble steps, followed by the sickening audio of Khloe’s screams and Vanessa's cold laugh.
Gasps and cries of pure outrage erupted from the gallery.
Arthur Kensington slumped in his chair, covering his face in humiliation.
Magistrate Wright’s face turned into an unyielding block of iron. She brought her heavy gavel down with a resounding crack that silenced the room.

"Bail is denied," Magistrate Wright declared. "Defendant Vanessa Kensington will be remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in solitary holding until trial. Case remanded for capital attempted murder."
Vanessa shrieked, kicking and flailing as two female deputies dragged her through the iron holding door in tears.
