Chapter 1 - The Blood on the Thirty Steps
Blood painted the white staircase of the Montgomery County Courthouse before anyone could process what they'd just seen.
One second, Khloe Harrington stood at the top, clutching her swollen belly, begging her husband's mistress to leave her alone. The next, her body was tumbling backward down thirty brutal marble steps.
At the top, Vanessa Kensington froze, her manicured hands still extended from the violent shove.
At the bottom, Khloe lay twisted against the cold stone, her navy maternity dress darkening with a terrifying pool of crimson.
Then a man dropped beside her so violently his palms tore open on the marble edge.
Harrison Cole—her older brother, her lead trial attorney, and the single most feared corporate prosecutor across Pennsylvania, a man corrupt billionaires feared far more than federal prison itself.
"Khloe…" his voice broke.
For the first time in three decades, the legendary titan of the courtroom sounded less like a lethal legal weapon and more like a shattered, terrified brother.
Khloe's trembling, bloody fingers reached up, leaving smeared scarlet prints across his bespoke charcoal suit lapel.
"Harry… the baby… please… save my baby girl…"
Harrison gently cradled her head, stripping his jacket to press it beneath her trembling body to staunch the bleeding.
Slowly, Harrison raised his head.
His slate-grey gaze locked onto the top of the landing.
There stood Vanessa Kensington, clutching her designer purse, and beside her stood Richard Harrington—Khloe's husband of four years—who hadn't taken a single step down the staircase to help his dying wife.
Harrison’s expression did not erupt into screaming rage. It turned into a terrifying, glacial stillness.

That was the exact moment Vanessa realized prison might not be the worst thing waiting for her. Because Harrison Cole didn't lose control. He dismantled human beings. Carefully. Methodically. Completely.
And once he began… he never stopped until there was nothing left of his enemies.
