Chapter 6 - The Billionaire's CollapseBy 4:30 AM, the storm had begun to subside, leaving a heavy, cool mist hanging over the Pacific coastline.

The grand drawing room of Whitmore Manor was filled with federal investigators, forensic technicians in white protective suits, and detectives cataloging evidence.

In the nursery upstairs, medical telemetry confirmed that little Lucas had stabilized completely thanks to Elena's rapid emergency airway clearance. The infant was resting peacefully under twenty-four-hour pediatric observation.

Downstairs, Adrian Whitmore sat in a high-backed armchair, looking completely broken. His multi-billion-dollar empire, his international prestige, his pride—none of it meant anything in the face of the horrifying reality he had lived for five years.

Elena walked into the room, holding two mugs of hot tea. She handed one to Adrian and sat across from him.

"Lucas will make a full recovery," Elena said softly. "There is no permanent organ damage."

Adrian lifted his bloodshot eyes. Tears tracked freely down his hollow cheeks.

"How could I have been so blind, Claire?" Adrian choked out, his voice cracking with unbearable guilt. "I lived with her for four years. I slept in the same bed with the woman who tried to murder you and our child. When Mia tried to tell me, I thought she was just grieving... I dismissed my own daughter’s cries."

Elena took a slow sip of her tea. "Vanessa is a clinical sociopath, Adrian. She spent two years studying our habits, our company, and our vulnerabilities before she ever made her move. She exploited your grief because grief makes the smartest people blind."

"What can I do?" Adrian whispered, dropping to his knees before her chair, looking up at her with desperate, pleading eyes. "Tell me what to do to make this right. Take the company. Take the manor. Take everything I own. Just tell me you will let me be a father to our children."

Elena looked down at him. The anger that had sustained her through five years of painful surgeries and rehabilitation had burned away, leaving only a quiet, resolute clarity.

"You don't need to give me what is already mine, Adrian," Elena said calmly. "The patents that built Whitmore Global were co-authored under my maiden name. Tomorrow morning, your board of directors will reinstate my 51% controlling stake in the enterprise."

"Done," Adrian agreed without a second's hesitation. "Anything else."

"And you will spend every single day for the rest of your life earning back Mia’s trust," Elena added, her voice softening slightly. "A child should never have to carry a key to her mother's survival in a dollhouse."

Adrian bowed his head against her hands, weeping with profound gratitude. "I swear to you on my life, Claire. I will spend every breath proving myself worthy of this second chance."
