Chapter 5 - The Toxicology Report"Block the perimeter gates!" Adrian roared into his estate radio, springing to his feet with sudden, ferocious energy. "Do not let any vehicle leave the grounds!"

Adrian, Elena, and Mia rushed down the sweeping marble staircase into the great entrance hall.
Standing near the open double doors, clutching a heavy leather travel duffel and a mink coat, was Vanessa. Beside her stood Nathan Cross, his hand resting conspicuously beneath the lapel of his tailored suit jacket where his firearm was concealed.
Two estate security guards stood at the entrance, looking confused and hesitant.
"Adrian, darling, thank God!" Vanessa cried, immediately trying to shift back into her victim persona. "Nathan told me this woman is an escaped mental patient! She has weapons! We need to evacuate to the downtown penthouse immediately!"
"Stand down, Nathan," Adrian commanded, walking down the steps with absolute fury radiating from his posture. "Take your hand off that weapon."
Nathan Cross’s eyes darted nervously between Adrian and the security guards. "Mr. Whitmore, with all respect, Mrs. Whitmore is in danger. I’m escorting her to a secure location."
"You're not escorting her anywhere, Nathan," Elena said, stepping out from behind the marble pillars into the full glare of the chandelier.
Nathan froze. When his eyes locked onto Elena’s face—recognizing the hazel eyes and the unmistakable posture of Claire Vance-Whitmore—every drop of color drained from his skin.
"It... it can't be," Nathan whispered, his voice trembling. "You're dead. The car went into the Pacific."
"I survived your handiwork, Nathan," Elena said smoothly. "And I have the recording of you and Vanessa negotiating my murder in the greenhouse five years ago."
Vanessa’s facade shattered completely. Her sweet, tearful expression twisted into a snarl of pure venom. "You pathetic bitch! You should have rotted at the bottom of the ocean!"
Before Nathan could draw his sidearm, the estate’s front iron gates swung open with a deafening screech.
Four black tactical SUVs from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation barreled up the driveway, their red and blue strobe lights illuminating the rain-drenched facade of the manor.
Sirens wailed in deafening unison.
"Nobody move! Federal agents! Drop your weapons!" a booming voice commanded over a megaphone.
Nathan instantly raised his hands and dropped to his knees on the wet flagstones. Vanessa shrieked in fury, dropping her duffel bag and attempting to sprint toward the rear gardens.
Two female FBI tactical officers intercepted her within three strides, tackling her onto the manicured lawn, pinning her arms behind her back, and snapping heavy steel handcuffs around her wrists.
Dr. Harrison, the chief pediatric trauma specialist from UCLA Medical Center, rushed through the front doors flanked by two paramedics.
"Where is the infant?" Dr. Harrison called out urgently.
"Upstairs in the nursery," Elena replied immediately. "He was administered approximately two milliliters of Compound T-94. Run an immediate heavy-metal mass spectrometry panel for synthetic cardiac depressants!"

Dr. Harrison nodded with profound respect. "We're on it, Dr. Vance!"
Vanessa, pinned to the grass in the pouring rain, lifted her head and screamed curses into the night, her diamonds catching the flashing police lights as her five-year empire of deceit collapsed into the mud.
