Clara discovered the next clue while reviewing Liam's medical history with his treating team.
The crash report described a mechanical failure.
But the hospital records documented injuries consistent with a severe high-speed collision.
There was nothing suspicious about the medical findings alone.
The problem was the timing.
Victor had insisted Liam travel that mountain road.
Victor had selected the driver.
Victor had arranged the vehicle.
And Victor had been the first person to announce Liam would never walk again.
Clara looked at Leo.
“Who told everyone he was permanently paralyzed?”
Leo hesitated.
“Victor.”
“Did the doctors say that?”
“Not exactly.”
Clara stared.
Leo continued.
“They said recovery was uncertain.”
She looked toward Liam's room.
Victor had turned a serious injury into a story of permanent helplessness.
A story that made Liam seem weak.
A story that encouraged rivals to move against him.
Clara swallowed.
“Victor is trying to take over.”
Leo nodded.
“I think so.”
