Chapter 6 - THE NIGHT LIAM CALLED HER NAME

The attack came at 2:17 A.M.

Clara was checking Liam's vital signs when the mansion's power failed.

The monitors switched to backup power.

Somewhere downstairs, an alarm sounded.

Then came gunfire.

Clara froze.

Liam's eyes opened.

“Get down.”

She dropped beside the bed.

Footsteps thundered in the hallway.

Leo shouted orders.

Liam reached toward the bedside drawer.

Clara grabbed his wrist.

“Don't.”

His eyes burned.

“Clara—”

“You can barely sit up.”

He stared at her.

Then a bullet shattered the bedroom mirror.

Clara screamed.

Liam pulled her toward the floor beside his bed.

“Stay down!”

The door burst open.

A masked man entered.

Clara saw the gun.

Then Liam shouted her name.

“Clara!”

She grabbed the emergency call device and activated the alarm.

Leo appeared behind the intruder.

The gunman turned.

A struggle followed.

The weapon fell.

Security restrained him.

Clara remained on the floor, shaking.

Liam reached toward her.

“Clara.”

She looked up.

His face was pale.

“Are you hurt?”

She shook her head.

“No.”

He closed his eyes.

May you like

“Thank God.”

For the first time, Liam Mercer had been afraid of losing someone more than he was afraid of dying.
