Chapter 5 - THE BROTHER WHO WASN'T SUPPOSED TO SURVIVE

Noah Mercer had been twenty-two when he disappeared.
Liam was twenty-eight.
The brothers had grown up poor.
Their father worked construction.
Their mother cleaned offices.
When both parents died within two years, Liam became responsible for Noah.
He built his criminal organization slowly.
Violently.
And with the conviction that power was the only way to protect family.
Noah hated the business.
He wanted out.
He wanted to become a teacher.
He wanted a normal life.
Then he discovered that one of Liam's closest associates was stealing money and arranging illegal deals behind his back.
Noah tried to expose him.
Three days later, he disappeared.
His car was found abandoned near the river.
Blood stained the driver's seat.
No body was recovered.
Liam believed Noah had been murdered.
And he blamed himself.
Because the man Noah suspected was someone Liam trusted.
Someone still inside his organization.
Someone who had recently arranged the mountain-road trip where Liam's car crashed.

His name was Victor Sloane.
And Victor had been Liam's closest friend for fifteen years.
