Chapter 8 - THE NIGHT NORA DISAPPEARED

The attempt happened three days later.
I was leaving a medical appointment arranged by Nico's staff.
A black SUV stopped beside the curb.
Two men stepped out.
One grabbed my arm.
I screamed.
A security guard rushed forward.
The men fled.
But not before one whispered something that made my blood turn cold.
“Your father says you still belong to him.”
I stumbled backward.
The guard caught me.
He called the police.
Then Nico.
By the time Nico arrived, I was sitting inside the clinic.
My hands were shaking.
He stopped in front of me.
“Nora.”
I looked up.
His expression changed when he saw the bruises on my wrist.
He crouched.
“Did they hurt you?”
I shook my head.
“Not badly.”
He closed his eyes.
Then whispered, “I'm sorry.”
I stared at him.
“For what?”
“For not understanding sooner how dangerous your father is.”
I looked away.
Nico continued.
“You don't have to stay in my home.”
May you like
I swallowed.
“But wherever you choose to go, we'll make sure you can get there safely.”
