Chapter 12 - THE CONFESSION THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

Edmund Ashford eventually agreed to cooperate with investigators.

His confession implicated Salvatore Ferrara in the financial scheme and the attack on Marco.

It also confirmed that Daniel Mercer had been shot during their confrontation fifteen years earlier.

Edmund admitted that he'd threatened me to keep me silent.

When I heard the confession, I felt strangely calm.

For years, I'd wondered whether anyone would believe me.

Now the truth was documented.

I wasn't imagining things.

I hadn't misunderstood.

I had been a child who witnessed a crime.

And the adults responsible had spent fifteen years trying to silence me.

Nico sat beside me.

He didn't touch me until I reached for his hand.

Then he squeezed gently.

“You did it,” he whispered.

I shook my head.

“No.”

May you like

I looked toward the window.

“I survived.”
