The next morning, Nico's younger brother Marco arrived at the penthouse.
He was twenty-nine, handsome, and still recovering from the attack near the East River.
His left arm rested in a sling.
When he saw me, he smiled gently.
“You must be Nora.”
I nodded.
“Hello.”
He looked toward Nico.
“Can we talk?”
Nico led him into the study.
I remained in the hallway.
I wasn't trying to listen.
But their voices carried.
“Daniel Mercer,” Marco said.
Nico went silent.
Then asked, “What about him?”
Marco hesitated.
“I found something before the attack.”
My heart began pounding.
Nico's voice hardened.
