Chapter 6 - A MARRIAGE BUILT ON REVENGE
That evening, Nico brought me into his study.
He placed the marriage contract on the desk.
I stared at it.
“What's that?”
“Our agreement.”
My stomach tightened.
Nico looked at me.
“I want you to understand something.”
I waited.
“I married you because I believed your father had arranged my brother's murder.”
I swallowed.
“He tried to.”
Nico nodded.
“But I was wrong to use you as punishment.”
I looked down.
He continued.
“You didn't choose your father's crimes.”
My eyes filled.
“And you shouldn't have to pay for them.”
He pushed the contract toward me.
“I've instructed my attorney to prepare documents allowing you to end this marriage if you want.”
I stared.
“You're letting me leave?”
Nico nodded.
“Yes.”
I couldn't speak.
He continued.
“You'll have independent legal representation and somewhere safe to stay. Your father won't be allowed to decide what happens to you.”
