Vincent received the divorce papers two weeks later.
He was sitting in a hospital family room.
Elena remained in the NICU.
Claire was recovering slowly.
Rebecca Sloan placed the documents on the table.
Vincent stared.
“She still wants this?”
Rebecca nodded.
“Yes.”
He swallowed.
“Even after everything?”
“Especially after everything.”
Vincent looked down.
For a moment, the old instinct returned.
Refuse.
Fight.
Control.
Then he remembered Claire's letter.

He picked up the pen.
And signed.
Rebecca looked surprised.
Vincent gave a bitter smile.
“Don't look so shocked.”
She said nothing.
He continued.
“I spent five years making decisions for her.”

His voice broke.
“I'm not doing it again.”
