Chapter 11 - THE NIGHT VINCENT LOST HIS EMPIRE

Vincent's criminal organization began fracturing.

Several associates saw his absence as weakness.

A rival faction challenged his authority.

For years, Vincent had maintained control through fear.

Now he was spending his days at the hospital.

Attending therapy.

Meeting attorneys.

Trying to become a father.

His associates didn't understand.

One evening, Marco approached him.

“Boss, the families are demanding a meeting.”

Vincent looked at him.

“Then give them one.”

Marco hesitated.

“They want to know whether you're still committed.”

Vincent stared.

“To what?”

“The organization.”

He looked toward the NICU.

Then back at Marco.

“No.”

Marco went still.

Vincent continued.

“I'm committed to my daughter.”

He began arranging a transition away from criminal operations, working with legal counsel to address the consequences of his past.

It wasn't simple.

It wasn't quick.

And it wasn't without risk.

But Vincent had finally realized that the empire he'd spent his life building had cost him the only people who might have loved him without fear.
