Chapter 10 - THE TRUTH ABOUT SOPHIA REYNOLDS

Sophia wasn't prepared to lose Vincent.

She arrived at his office furious.

“You can't just abandon me!”

Vincent looked up.

“I'm not abandoning you.”

She laughed bitterly.

“You bought me a house!”

“Yes.”

“A car!”

“Yes.”

“You promised I'd always matter!”

Vincent stood.

“You mattered.”

Sophia's expression changed.

“Past tense?”

He looked at her.

“I allowed our relationship to become something it never should have been.”

She stepped closer.

“Vincent—”

He shook his head.

“No.”

She stared.

He continued.

“I humiliated my wife. I neglected her. I made you believe you had a place in my marriage that you never should have had.”

Sophia's eyes filled.

“You loved me.”

Vincent looked down.

“Maybe I loved the idea of never having to change.”

Silence.

Then he said:

“But whatever I felt, I used it as an excuse to hurt someone who trusted me.”

Sophia turned away.

For the first time, Vincent didn't follow her.
