Chapter 8 - THE LITTLE GIRL WHO REMEMBERED

Rosie was only three.
But she remembered things adults overlooked.
She remembered the night Camilla brought Lucia home.
The baby had been wrapped in a yellow blanket.
She remembered Teresa crying.
She remembered Camilla whispering:
“We have to keep her safe.”
And she remembered a man standing outside their old apartment.
He wore a dark coat.
He had a scar near his eyebrow.
Rosie called him the angry man.
One afternoon, while drawing at the kitchen table, Rosie sketched a face.
Camilla looked at the picture.
“Who's that, sweetheart?”
Rosie pointed.
“The angry man.”
Camilla froze.
The drawing showed a man with a dark line above one eye.
She recognized the scar.
It belonged to Lorenzo's driver.
A man named Marco DeSantis.
Camilla immediately told Tommy.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the apartment building.
They found images of Marco entering the area several times during the months after Lucia's disappearance.
The evidence suggested Lorenzo had continued searching for the child.
Camilla looked at Rosie.
Her daughter had unknowingly provided another important clue.
She hugged her tightly.
“You're very brave.”
Rosie smiled.
“Like Biscotto?”
Camilla laughed through tears.
May you like
“Yes, sweetheart.”
“Just like Biscotto.”
