Chapter 4 - THE WOMAN IN THE BLUE COAT

Camilla had kept one secret from Dante.

Not because she wanted to.

Because she didn't know whether it mattered.

Two weeks after Lucia was moved to Teresa's house, a woman appeared outside Camilla's apartment.

She wore a blue wool coat.

Her face was bruised.

Her hair was cut short.

She asked one question.

“Is the baby safe?”

Camilla had been terrified.

She didn't recognize the woman.

But the stranger knew Lucia's name.

Camilla refused to answer.

The woman nodded.

Then handed her a folded piece of paper.

“Tell her father to look at the hospital records.”

Before Camilla could ask anything, the woman disappeared.

Now Camilla showed Dante the note.

He unfolded it.

The handwriting was shaky.

But familiar.

He had seen it on birthday cards.

Shopping lists.

Letters Elisa left beside his coffee.

Dante stared.

Then whispered:

“Elisa.”

Camilla looked at him.

“You recognize it?”

He nodded.

His hands trembled.

The note contained only seven words.

THEY LIED ABOUT THE CRASH. FIND ME.

Dante closed his eyes.

For eight months, he'd believed his fiancée was dead.

Now he had proof she might have survived.

But where was she?

And why hadn't she come home?
