Chapter 9 - THE DOOR BENEATH THE STAIRCASE
The evidence against Ethan came from an unexpected place.
A locked storage room beneath the east staircase.
Tommy had discovered it during a security inspection.
Inside were duplicate financial records.
Burner phones.
And a hidden computer.
The files documented Ethan's secret communications with the rival syndicate.
They also contained messages discussing the warehouse ambush.
Mave watched as Tommy showed Declan the evidence.
Declan's face went pale.
He read the messages.
Then closed his eyes.
“My own brother.”
Tommy said nothing.
Declan looked toward the photograph of Nora.
Then whispered, “I failed both of them.”
Mave stepped closer.
“No.”
He looked at her.
She continued.
“You didn't make Ethan choose betrayal.”
Declan swallowed.
“But I created the world that made it possible.”
May you like
Mave nodded slowly.
“Then change it.”
