Chapter 10 - THE NIGHT THE MANSION WAS ATTACKED
Ethan made his final move on a stormy Friday night.
He sent armed men to the estate.
The security system failed.
Gunfire echoed through the lower halls.
Mave was helping Declan reposition in bed when the alarm sounded.
Tommy burst into the room.
“We have to move.”
Declan reached for his wheelchair.
Mave helped him transfer safely.
Then they moved toward the medical wing.
Smoke filled the hallway.
Somewhere downstairs, glass shattered.
Mave pushed the wheelchair toward an accessible exit.
Declan looked back.
“Tommy?”
“Behind you.”
They reached the courtyard.
Rain struck their faces.
Declan coughed.
Mave knelt beside him.
“Are you hurt?”
He shook his head.
Then looked at her.
“You came back.”
Mave frowned.
“Of course.”
He swallowed.
“You could have left.”
She squeezed his hand.
“I know.”

And for the first time in years, he began to cry.
