Chapter 8 - The Eviction on Long Island

At 1:30 PM that afternoon, the quiet suburban street in Long Island was blocked by three marked police cruisers from the Nassau County Sheriff's Department and two heavy-duty repossession flatbed trucks.
Olivia Vance stood on the front lawn in her slippers, shrieking at the deputies as they placed yellow eviction notices across the carved oak front door.
"You can't do this! My son owns this house!" Olivia wailed, pulling at her dyed hair.
"Your son defaulted on three consecutive mortgage installments, ma'am," Deputy Miller answered coldly, tossing her designer luggage onto the grass. "Title to this property belongs to Sterling Asset Management. You have twenty minutes to vacate the premises before you are arrested for criminal trespassing."
Neighbors who had stood in the backyard two days earlier watching Maya get humiliated stepped out onto their porches, whispering and recording the spectacle on their phones.
Vanessa rushed out of the front door carrying four shopping bags filled with designer clothes.
Two federal agents blocked her path at the driveway.
"Vanessa Cole?" Special Agent Karen Vance asked, displaying her gold badge.
"Yes... what do you want?"
"Under federal civil asset forfeiture statutes, all items purchased with funds embezzled from Vance Logistics—including that three-carat diamond ring on your finger and those luxury handbags—are seized as evidence."

"No! This was a gift!" Vanessa shrieked, fighting the agents as they firmly removed the ring from her hand and confiscated her luggage.
Within forty minutes, Vanessa was left sitting on the curb in an off-the-rack sweater, holding a paper coffee cup, having been dumped by her modeling agency and permanently evicted from the property.
