Chapter 7 - The Forensic Audit of Richard Vance

Olivia Vance jumped to her feet, knocking her chair backward, clutching her pearls in hysterical disbelief. "That’s impossible! She was working at a diner in Queens when Richard met her! She's an orphan with no family!"
"She was protecting her daughter from predators like your son, Mrs. Vance," Julian replied with chilling precision.
Maya took her seat at the head of the marble table. She did not raise her voice. She did not sneer. She simply folded her hands over the desk, the silver orchid ring gleaming in the morning sun.
"Mr. Vance," Maya began, her voice cutting through the suffocating silence like a laser. "Let us review your $12 million loan application."
She tapped her tablet. The giant high-definition monitors along the boardroom walls illuminated with certified forensic audits:
The Embezzlement Audit: $1.4 million siphoned from Vance Logistics’ operational accounts to fund private luxury car leases, high-stakes sports gambling in Las Vegas, and Vanessa’s designer jewelry.
The Mortgage Fraud: A forged secondary deed on the Long Island home attempting to pledge Maya’s personal family savings as business collateral without her consent.
The Tax Evasion: $850,000 in unreported corporate revenue funneled through shell LLCs registered under Olivia Vance’s name.
Vanessa gasped, looking at Richard with wild, panicked eyes. "Richard... what is this?! You told me you were worth twenty million!"
"Shut up, Vanessa!" Richard screamed, sweat pouring down his temples, soaking his Italian collar. He turned to Maya, dropping to his knees on the marble floor, crawling toward the head of the table.
"Maya! Honey! Please!" Richard sobbed, tears and snot smearing his face as he reached for the hem of her blazer. "It was all for us! For Lily! I was trying to build an empire for our family! I lost my temper at the party... I was stressed! You know I love you!"
Maya pulled her chair back, looking down at the groveling man with calm, unshakeable pity.
"You shoved my face into our daughter’s birthday cake, Richard," Maya said softly. "You laughed while your mistress filmed my child crying. You told me I wouldn't last a week without you."
May you like
Maya leaned forward.
"You were right about one thing, Richard. I didn't last a week without you. In three days, I took back everything you ever dreamed of touching."
