Chapter 3 - The Billionaire's Search

At 6:30 AM, Julian Sterling stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass wall of his Manhattan office, holding a fresh cup of espresso.

His Chief of Security, Thomas Vance (no relation to Richard), walked into the room carrying a black leather portfolio stamped with the official seal of the New York Surrogate's Court.

"Julian," Thomas said, his voice laced with suppressed excitement. "The biometric registry on the Sterling Primary Trust activated twelve minutes ago."

Julian turned around, his sharp grey eyes narrowing. "Where?"

"An IP address originating from a residential router in Astoria, Queens," Thomas reported, sliding the tracking dossier across the glass desk. "And you won't believe whose profile it matched."

Thomas pulled up the surveillance photograph from yesterday's backyard party in Long Island—the image of Maya lifting her head covered in pink frosting, shielding her crying four-year-old daughter.

"Maya Vance," Thomas said. "Her real legal identity is Maya Evelyn Sterling. She is the direct firstborn daughter of the late Lady Evelyn Sterling. She holds 68% of the primary voting shares of Sterling Global Capital."

Julian stared at the screen. A slow, incredulous smile spread across his face, followed immediately by an icy wave of predatory fury.

"The woman Richard Vance shoved into a birthday cake yesterday," Julian said, his voice dropping into a dangerous whisper, "is the ultimate owner of the entire commercial debt portfolio of Vance Logistics."

"And Richard Vance just submitted a formal loan restructuring application to our junior syndicate," Thomas added with a grim chuckle. "He is requesting an emergency liquidity infusion of $12 million to save his shipping company from bankruptcy."

Julian drained his espresso and grabbed his tailored suit jacket from the leather armchair.

"Have the armored Maybach brought around, Thomas," Julian commanded. "It's time to bring the Queen of Manhattan back to her throne."
