Chapter 7 - THE WOMAN BEHIND THE GLASS

Damien took me to a secure office downtown.
A woman waited inside.
Silver hair.
Dark eyes.
A familiar pendant.
My heart stopped.
“Grandmother?”
The woman stood.
It wasn't my grandmother.
But she looked enough like her to make my knees weaken.
“My name is Evelyn Whitmore,” she said.
I stared.
“My grandmother's sister?”
She nodded.
I had been told Evelyn died twenty years earlier.
Damien watched me carefully.
Evelyn stepped closer.
“Your grandmother tried to protect you.”
My eyes filled.
She continued.
“Before she died, she sent me copies of documents.”
I swallowed.
“What documents?”
Evelyn opened a folder.
Inside was a blue notebook.
My grandmother's diary.
My hands shook.
Evelyn placed it in front of me.
“Your family has been lying about you for a very long time.”
I looked at Damien.
May you like
He nodded.
“Read it.”
