Chapter 4 - THE SECRET VINCENT VALE LEFT BEHIND

Vincent Vale had been preparing to leave the criminal side of the family business.

That was the first truth Adrian learned.

The second was worse.

Vincent had discovered that Malcolm Creed was using the Vale shipping network to move illegal cargo without authorization.

Millions of dollars had disappeared.

Several employees had been threatened.

And Vincent had begun collecting evidence.

Evelyn spread copies of the documents across the library table.

Adrian stared at them.

Bank records.

Shipping manifests.

Private correspondence.

And a handwritten letter.

His father's handwriting.

Adrian recognized it immediately.

He picked up the page.

The first sentence made his chest tighten.

If anything happens to me, do not trust Malcolm Creed.

Adrian sat down.

For a long moment, he couldn't speak.

Then he read the rest.

Vincent had documented suspicious transactions.

He had planned to meet with an attorney.

He had also arranged to transfer certain records to an independent investigator.

But he died before he could complete the process.

Adrian lowered the letter.

His hands shook.

For twelve years, Malcolm had been his adviser.

His mentor.

The man who stood beside him at his father's funeral.

The man who told him how to lead the family.

Adrian looked toward his mother.

“You knew.”

Helena began crying.

“I knew he was dangerous.”

Adrian's expression hardened.

“And you let him raise me into this life?”

Helena covered her mouth.

“I thought I was protecting you.”

May you like

Adrian stood.

“You protected the man who destroyed our family.”
