Chapter 8 - THE NIGHT THE WITNESS DISAPPEARED

The digital storage device contained financial records.
Shipping manifests.
Internal messages.
And surveillance footage.
The documents showed that Harborpoint Industrial had been used to move illegal materials through legitimate supply chains.
Daniel Varela discovered it.
He planned to expose the operation.
Then the warehouse burned.
But the most shocking discovery was a video.
Dela watched it with Cormack.
The footage showed her father entering an office.
He spoke to a man seated behind a desk.
The man's face was partially hidden.
But his voice was clear.
“You should have stayed quiet, Daniel.”
Dela froze.
She knew that voice.
She had heard it at the bar.
For eleven months.
Every shift.
Every night.
Nolan Prescott.
Her hands began shaking.
Cormack reached toward her.
Then stopped.
“Dela?”
She stared at the screen.
“Nolan knew my father.”
Cormack's expression hardened.
“Yes.”
She swallowed.
“And he knew who I was.”

Silence.
Then Cormack whispered, “That's why he hired you.”
