Cormack offered Dela a job.
A senior position in one of his legitimate companies.
A salary large enough to change her life.
Full benefits.
And access to rehabilitation services.
Dela listened.
Then shook her head.
“No.”
Cormack frowned.
“No?”
She smiled.
“I want to go back to school.”
He stared.
“School?”
“Chemistry.”
His expression softened.
She continued.
“I want to finish what I started before Harborpoint.”
Cormack nodded.
“Then do it.”
Dela smiled.
“And I want to pay for it myself.”
He laughed softly.
“Of course you do.”
She stepped closer.
“Cormack.”
“Yes?”
“I don't want to be another thing you own.”
His smile vanished.
Then he reached for her hand.
“You're not.”
She looked at him.
He continued.
“And you never will be.”
