Chapter 14 - THE NIGHT BOSTON HEARD THE TRUTH
Cormack Brennan began dismantling the criminal parts of his organization.
It was slow.
Dangerous.
And expensive.
He cooperated with investigations.
Turned over records.
And accepted consequences for the decisions he'd made.
He lost allies.
Lost money.
And lost the reputation that had once made men fear him.
But he gained something he'd never had.
Peace.
Dela completed her degree.
She began working in a forensic laboratory.
Helping investigators analyze evidence.
She also continued physical rehabilitation.
Her leg improved.
The pain never disappeared completely.
But she learned to manage it.
And she stopped treating her scars as something to hide.
One evening, Cormack attended her graduation.
He sat in the audience beside Evan.
When Dela crossed the stage, Cormack stood.
Applauding.

Smiling.
And for the first time in his life, he felt prouder of someone else's achievement than anything he'd ever accomplished himself.
