Chapter 4 - THE MAN WHO REMEMBERED HER FATHER

Cormack remembered Daniel Varela.

Not as a warehouse manager.

As a man who had once stood between him and a gun.

It happened eleven years earlier.

Cormack was twenty-nine.

Still building his organization.

Still making enemies faster than money.

Daniel worked as a logistics supervisor for one of his legitimate shipping companies.

During a meeting at the docks, a rival gunman opened fire.

Daniel pushed Cormack behind a steel container.

The bullet struck Daniel's shoulder instead.

Cormack never forgot it.

He paid Daniel's medical bills.

Offered him a promotion.

And promised that if Daniel ever needed anything, he could ask.

Then Daniel disappeared from Cormack's life.

Three years ago, the warehouse burned.

Cormack had been told Daniel died in the accident.

He sent flowers.

Money.

And a representative to the funeral.

But nobody answered the door.

Now he understood why.

Dela stared at him.

“You knew my father?”

Cormack nodded.

“He saved my life.”

Her eyes filled.

“He never told me.”

“He didn't like talking about it.”

She laughed through tears.

“That sounds like him.”

Cormack looked at her.

“Dela, I didn't kill your father.”

She studied his face.

“Then who did?”

May you like

Cormack's expression hardened.

“I intend to find out.”
