Chapter 5 - THE GLASS THAT NEVER REACHED HIS LIPS

The laboratory results arrived the following afternoon.

The ice sphere contained a toxic substance.

The concentration was potentially lethal.

The whiskey itself was uncontaminated.

Someone had deliberately placed the substance inside the ice.

Cormack stared at the report.

Then looked at Hal.

“Nolan?”

Hal's expression was grim.

“Gone.”

Cormack went still.

“What?”

“He escaped during transport to the police station.”

Cormack's jaw tightened.

“How?”

Hal hesitated.

“Someone helped him.”

Cormack stared.

“Inside security?”

Hal nodded.

“We're investigating.”

Cormack looked toward the window.

Then whispered, “He's not working alone.”

Across the room, Dela listened.

Her hands went cold.

Because she recognized the pattern.

A poisoned sample.

A disappearing employee.

A convenient escape.

It was happening again.

Just like Harborpoint.

And this time, she was standing close enough to the truth to be killed for it.
