Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Shock

At 2:00 PM that afternoon, the 48th-floor executive boardroom of Vance Precision Logistics was an arena of absolute destruction.
The company's board of directors, lenders, and regional warehouse managers sat in terrified silence around the twenty-foot glass table.
Richard stumbled into the room, wearing a wrinkled suit he had pulled from his car trunk, his hair unkempt, smelling of panic and stale sweat.
"Listen to me, everyone!" Richard pleaded, slamming his hands onto the glass. "This is a temporary liquidity freeze! I am finalizing a private loan with foreign investors! Nobody panic!"
"There are no foreign investors, Mr. Vance," the corporate secretary announced.
The heavy frosted double doors opened.
Maya walked in, flanked by Harold Sterling and six corporate attorneys.
Harold took the seat at the head of the table, resting his ebony cane against the wood.
"For four years, Richard Vance has embezzled $3.2 million from this logistics network to service illegal gambling debts and finance luxury gifts for his mistress," Harold announced, sliding forensic accounting ledgers across the table. "As the primary creditor and holder of ninety-four percent of this firm's mezzanine debt, the Sterling Trust hereby votes to dissolve the executive management with cause."
The board members immediately raised their hands in unanimous consent.
"Motion carried," the secretary recorded. "Richard Vance is terminated from all corporate positions, stripped of his stock options, and personally liable for $14 million in restitution."
Richard fell to his knees beside his chair, clutching at Maya’s trousers, weeping in ragged, desperate gasps. "Maya! Please! Think of Lily! We were married for five years! I'm her father!"

Maya looked down at him without a shred of hatred—only pure, unshakeable pity.
"You forgot you were her father the moment you shoved her mother's face into her birthday cake, Richard," Maya said softly, pulling her leg away from his grasp. "Security, remove this stranger from my building."
