Chapter 4 - The Heritage of Manhattan

At 3:00 AM, the convoy arrived at the legendary Sterling Estate—a private, gated thirty-acre sanctuary in the heart of Upper Brookville, Long Island.

Inside the grand marble foyer, eighty-two-year-old patriarch Harold Sterling stood waiting, leaning heavily on a polished ebony walking cane. His silver hair was disheveled, his eyes red from unshed tears.

When the heavy double doors opened and Maya stepped through, holding four-year-old Lily wrapped in a cashmere blanket, Harold stopped breathing.

He looked at Maya’s high cheekbones, her wide hazel eyes, and the delicate silver orchid resting against her collarbone.

"Victoria..." the old billionaire choked out, his voice cracking into a ragged sob.

He dropped his cane and took three trembling steps forward, wrapping his arms around Maya with decades of buried grief and love. "My granddaughter... my sweet, brave girl. You're home. You're finally home."

Maya, who had spent twenty-four years believing she was an unwanted orphan, felt the heavy armor around her heart crumble. Tears spilled down her cheeks as she rested her head against her grandfather's shoulder.

By 5:00 AM, emergency DNA testing conducted by the Chief of Genetics at Mount Sinai confirmed the biological match at 99.999%.

Harold Sterling sat in his master library, holding Lily on his lap while the little girl happily munched on fresh strawberry pastries.

He turned to Julian, his jaw setting into an unyielding mask of vengeance.

"Richard Vance and his family made my granddaughter eat dirt for their amusement," Harold said, his voice vibrating with absolute fury. "What commercial assets does the Vance family hold?"

Julian opened a leather folder with a cold smile. "Richard runs Vance Precision Logistics. Their primary warehouse facility is leased from our commercial real estate arm. Their operational revolving credit line of $14 million is held by Sterling Merchant Bank. And their suburban home is under an emergency foreclosure lien that we purchased three weeks ago."

Harold looked at Maya. "My dear, how would you like to handle your former husband?"

May you like

Maya wiped a tear from her cheek, her hazel eyes turning sharp as diamonds.

"I don't want his money, Grandfather," Maya said with quiet, lethal precision. "I want him to learn what it feels like to be completely powerless."
