Chapter 6 - THE WOMAN WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO DISAPPEAR

Dorian moved Alina to a secure apartment owned by one of his legitimate companies.

She agreed only after he promised she could contact her own attorney, choose her doctor, and leave with independent protection if she wished.

The apartment overlooked the Hudson River.

It had two bedrooms.

A small kitchen.

And windows that didn't open more than four inches.

Alina hated it.

On the second night, she found Dorian standing on the balcony.

“Are you going to tell me everything now?”

He turned.

“Yes.”

She folded her arms.

“Then start with Gabriel.”

Dorian took a breath.

His brother had disappeared five years earlier after discovering suspicious transfers from the Cross family trust.

The money had been moving through shell companies connected to Dorian's uncle, Sebastian Cross.

Gabriel believed Sebastian was preparing to seize control of the family businesses.

Then Gabriel vanished.

A burned car was found near the river.

The police identified human remains.

The family held a funeral.

But Dorian had never been convinced.

“Why not?” Alina asked.

Dorian looked toward the city.

“Because Gabriel sent me a message three months later.”

Her heart pounded.

“What message?”

Dorian swallowed.

DON'T TRUST THE FAMILY.

Alina stared.

“And now?”

May you like

Dorian looked at her stomach.

“Now someone knows you're carrying two children who could inherit everything.”
