Chapter 13 - THE LAST ORDER HE EVER GAVE
Sebastian Cross was arrested after investigators obtained evidence of financial crimes, conspiracy, and involvement in the attacks.
The legal proceedings were complicated.
Dorian cooperated through counsel.
He surrendered records.
Testified where required.
And began dismantling the criminal parts of the Cross organization.
It cost him money.
Influence.
And several relationships he'd once believed were permanent.
But he didn't regret it.
One evening, he stood in his office overlooking Manhattan.
Rafe entered.
“Boss.”
Dorian looked up.
“Yes?”
“The last transfer is complete.”
Dorian nodded.
The legitimate companies had been placed under independent management.
The criminal operations were being wound down under legal oversight.
For the first time in years, Dorian had no reason to issue orders that frightened people.
Rafe hesitated.
“What now?”
Dorian looked toward the city.
Then smiled faintly.
“Now I go home.”
Rafe laughed.
“That's it?”

Dorian nodded.
“That's everything.”
