Chapter 3 - THE GRAY SEDAN ACROSS THE STREET

Dr. Hale closed the examination room door.
“Someone attempted to access Mrs. Cross's medical file before the test results were finalized.”
Dorian's expression hardened.
“Who?”
“We don't know yet.”
Alina stared.
“What do you mean, someone?”
The doctor looked at her.
“An unauthorized login request came from outside the hospital network.”
Dorian took out his phone.
“Rafe.”
His security chief answered immediately.
“Yes?”
“Lock down the floor. Nobody enters without Dr. Hale's approval.”
Alina's stomach tightened.
“Dorian, stop.”
He turned.
“What?”
“I'm not a prisoner.”
His expression changed.
“Someone is trying to get your medical records.”
“That doesn't mean you get to take over my life.”
For a moment, neither spoke.
Then Dorian lowered his phone.
“You're right.”
Alina blinked.
He looked at her.
“I should have asked.”
She stared.
Dorian turned toward Dr. Hale.
“Can you protect her privacy?”
The doctor nodded.
“We've already restricted access.”
“Good.”
Then he looked at Alina.
“What do you want to do?”
The question stunned her.
For three years, Dorian had made decisions.
Where they lived.
Who they met.
When he traveled.
What she was allowed to know.
Now he was asking.
Alina swallowed.
“I want to understand what's happening.”
Dorian nodded.
“Then I'll tell you.”
May you like
He pulled a chair beside the examination table.
And for the first time in months, he began telling his wife the truth.
